Introducing the Ryoma Maxima 2016 Driver – Here are your first in hand photos and review of what is one of the most highly anticipated drivers from a Japanese golf brand this year. Three years in the making Ryoma claims to have made a significant improvement in all around club head performance over the previous version (D1 Maxima) which was released nearly three years ago. If you have tried any of Ryoma Golf’s clubs you know, they are not just another club made for the sale of release they often bring the player better and tangible results over most other clubs on the market.
My review will highlight my thoughts against it’s predecessor, Please Follow the Jump for more pictures and a review…
The New 2016 Ryoma Maxima Driver – Back in March we sat down with Mr. Tanihara President and Designer of Ryoma Golf a man who we consider a genius and separate from the traditional golf industry in Japan with a background in medical science and technology. During our meeting he pushed across the table a couple of new prototypes and asked us not to take any photos, what I had in my hands was the next generation 2016 Ryoma Maxima. This club is three years in the making as Mr. Tanihara wanted to see large tangible improvements over his competitor’s performance. Everything was re-evaluated and designed completely from the ground up starting with the material and featuring new manufacturing methods.
Below is the official press release translated into English:
Our companies policy is to only release a new product when there is a performance difference from previous versions. The new 2016 Maxima is the first driver to be released in three years following the D-1 in 2009 and the D-1 MAXIMA in 2013.
The New 2016 Maxima driver’s greatest features are the world’s lowest center of gravity and the high rebound initial velocity.
The New “2016 Ryoma MAXIMA” is a complete revision of the original design. It further improves on the company’s own patented DSI technology and has achieved the astounding feat of outperforming its famed predecessor by a distance of 10 yards on each shot. Designed using an unprecedented new forging method involving a new technique that utilizes every last gram of head weight to create the best distance driver in golf today.
An “under press Cup crown” featuring a bend angle of up to 130 degrees was created, which is impossible for all other titanium alloys. The welding position has been substantially lowered, and extremely high-density 17g tungsten powder was employed in the design of the new “anti-roll power booster”. A lowering of the center of gravity corresponding to a score line interval of 5mm per club was implemented while maintaining the deep face shape, which achieved a low center of gravity rate of 50%.
Compared to ordinary drivers from other companies, the back spin has been reduced by 900 rpm on average. Also the average initial velocity was improved by 3.8mph as a result of the strengthening of the spring effect extending across the body. Our company has created an unrivaled high-performance club that belongs in a new category of its own. By continuing to create products that perform beyond their price, we strive to remain a producer trusted by golfers.

The New 2016 VG3 Driver – I first hit this club back several months ago at the Tokyo Golf Show only issue was it was inside a swing cage and I wasn’t really in review mode, well a couple of weeks ago I was able to take it out for a round at TPC San Antonio which is a lovely track I’m familiar with and got to give her a good run.
It’s a Japan Only Premium offering from Titleist that caters to a wide range of player from the smoother swinging low handicap to even the high handicap golfer. So what makes it premium? It’s the 811 Ti body and the SP700 Forged Cup Face these are top grade materials often only used in the very best JDM drivers. It’s a High MOI driver with an elongated shape and what Titleist calls a center axis cg location, It’s got the active recoil channel and sure fit adapter as well. On to my thoughts after the Jump…
The JBEAM ZY-7 Driver Pre-order bank is now officially open at TourSpecGolf! You may contact us directly via email for a custom build firstname.lastname@example.org or purchase directly from the TSG ProShop listing that will launch tomorrow. This driver is only available via specialty JBeam dealers like TSG.
A little background on why the new ZY-7 is such a highly anticipated driver. J-Beam has been known to produce some of the best and longest drivers in all of Japan many of their models have unique spin reduction and launch characteristics. Many brands like Crazy, TRPX and others have sought to collaborate with Jbeam seeking similar performance in their clubs. This new ZY-7 is being used on the Japan Long Drive Tour by JBEAM sponsored player Yasuhiro Yamazaki as a prototype already securing him the top spot twice in his last two events.
The history of Jbeam’s drivers date back more than 30 years where Mr. Kazuhiro-san the father of the current president shown below was a persimmon driver artisan famous in Japan, for years Kazuhiro-san watched his father meticulously grind wooden heads to the specifications of many of Japan’s best professional players. Kazuhiro-san has taken much of what his father has taught him and incorporated modern technology and his personal philosophy on how to create maximum distance for many types of players. Follow the Jump for more information about the new 2016 JBeam ZY-7 Driver.
Looking for the best Japan Made Hybrid Shaft Available? I get this question a lot and while there are many options few I can suggest with the utmost confidence up until now. Introducing the Crazy STP UT shaft, for those not familiar with the STP series it stands for “Step” Crazy Shaft Co. Purchased the patent for this carbon step technology a couple of years ago and created what I believe is the most straight shooting carbon or steel shaft ever made, the STP Iron Shaft. Usually only steel shafts have a step in them now that has changed. The Original STP IRON shaft plays very stiff to flex and is weight to frequency matched meaning you can’t select a weight in any flex they are only sold in specific weight flex combinations. The STP iron shaft is also the lowest flight most spin reducing iron shaft I have ever played and our customer feedback mirrors my opinion. The same concept and technology in the STP irons now flows into the STP Utility Shaft but the key adjustment is that it’s not as stiff, these play true to flex with a more vibrant feel yet extremely straight.
What can also be done is we can have Crazy tip the shafts to play stiffer or softer per the customers request to fine tune to their preferences. The new Crazy STP Utility Shafts are now in stock and shipping immediately shaft only or you can contact email@example.com to set you up with a highly recommended head. This is the last of the five SEVEN X GOLDS FACTORY putters produced in our first run. The previous four sold quickly after posting as will this one. This is based on the same SM490A blank sole design and modified by Gold’s Factory. This one here is a more simple design featuring horizontal PZ milling which is one of the most requested face designs at Gold’s Factory that is known to produce a soft feel with end over end roll. The weight has been increased with dual overlap tungsten weighting on the sole, and the putter has been finished in an anti-glare soft black with a hand polished sole. The shaft has been upgraded to the Teramoto black shaft, and a gold finished VM tech insert installed to bring the weight up and dampen the putter feel for a more rewarding impact.
The putter is made to 34″ with an Elite iB67 White grip it’s head weight is 385 grams. Expect it to be listed in the TSG Pro Shop later this week and for more photos follow the Jump…
Honma TW-BM Limited Edition Irons – Introducing a new limited edition Honma muscle back iron coming June 17th to TourSpecGolf. Designed with specific input from JPGA Tour champion Hideo Tanihara for a more forgiving user-friendly blade design. While it looks very similar to the TW727 series muscle back’s this one features a unique forged material process that Honma has labelled VPF or Variation Productive Force. This combination of a more user-friendly design and manufacturing also produces a softer more supple feel at impact.
The only shafts available will be the Vizard series I and IB models with the standard shaft being the IB-95 Stiff Flex. I have a lot of experience with these shafts as do many of TSG’s Honma’s customers, they improve feel at impact as they are made of carbon yet the IB models play stiff to flex even compared to steel shafts in the same weight. These shafts feature steel fibers in the tip section for improved accuracy via a stiffer tip section.
As you can see in the image below the new Honma TW-BM is slighter longer heel to toe and taller from bottom to top. The sole is also more narrow, and it does have a touch more offset. TSG will be announcing more info as it becomes available with in hand photos before release. These are limited edition and will go quickly, so we are adding these to the TSG ProShop as soon as possible.
When we first announced Seven Dreamers a couple of years ago, customers were both hesitant and curious. 7D’s marketing plan was genius as golf media worldwide gravitated to the headline of a $120,000 golf shaft and that’s all anyone could talk about, that’s how stupid the golf media is and shows how they choose a quick headline over an in-depth feature of one of the most fascinating golf companies in the world. I’m used to it as it’s the same way they talk about Samurai swords and ancient Japan when mentioning anything related to Japanese Golf Equipment. It’s garbage yet amazingly works on the masses.
Back to the topic at hand, Seven Dreamers currently they have a driver, fairway, and hybrid shafts available and in a month or so their putter shaft hits the market followed by iron shafts. TSG has posted many photos and so have our customers showing off their 7D driver shafts but in this thread, we will show you some rare photos of prototypes and even the $120,000 driver shaft. After the jump, please…
Starting May 1st to June 1st, Seven Dreamers X TourSpecGolf are offering a Buy 1 get one 50% off sale meaning any shaft purchased during this period is eligible for a second shaft at half price. This also includes fairway and hybrid shafts as well as pre-ordered putter shafts.
