The PRGR series has had quite the fan following here on TourSpecGolf for the better part of a decade now. With each new release we have customers line up and pre-order theirs. Usually these are players who desire a lot of distance and forgiveness.
The PRGR Egg series has expanded the longest and most forgiving model would be the non-conforming super egg irons, then the newer Egg PC and following that this model as shown the PF “F” is for Forged which is what I will highlight today for you :) Please follow the jump for more info…
Shape matters when it comes to forgiveness and as you can see in the pic above the head is rather shallow and has a long heel to toe length with a curved yet slightly squared toe.
This iron is only part forged the body of the 4-AW is S45C while the gap and sand wedges are S20C, these parts are forged and cnc milled. The face is made of rolled SAE 8655 steel which is all about distance.
What is awesome is the minimal offset, usually, this is not found in these super distance irons. And when I say super distance I mean it as the PW comes in at 38*!!! Some people have been known to hit the 6 iron 200 yards. It’s wild and I have hit every egg iron including all the new ones and PRGR just knows how to play the distance game.
In the photo above you can see it is not a huge iron considering the insane distance and forgiveness. I consider this the most compact iron in the super distance game improvement category of equipment.
People are ordering these with standard carbon, lightweight steel and there are a ton of great custom shaft options and that is the way I would go if ordering these.
In the pic below you have the sole. plenty of leading-edge relief. a small step around the trailing edge which is smart as it allows the club to sit like a more compact iron but also does not get caught up in the rough.
So the launch is high with most of the shaft options, it can be tamed by choosing a custom shaft. We have had customers throw in really stout shafts even heavyweight steel like the modus 125 and I have hit Egg’s with this type of build and they are amazingly accurate and easy to play. But off the rack with lightweight steel or the standard carbon offerings, you get high launch, super easy to hit and loads of extra distance.
Below specs of the M40 carbon shaft. The 40 stands for 40ms or meters per second which is about 89mph and yes that is a 26* loft on a #7 iron!
