At TourSpecGolf we have sold hundreds of S-Series Honma Beres Drivers and have collected a lot of user feedback from a variety of types of players. Honma is a brand that is recognized worldwide for its prestigious history and its ultra high-quality products with superior fit and finishes versus nearly all other brands. Today our review based on the reviews of other customers who have owned this driver for more than 3 months. Follow the Jump to read on…
First lets talk about what it is, The S-06 Beres Driver by Honma Golf is a full 460cc volume head. It is designed for the mid to high handicap player who battles the slice. Its standard face angle is slightly closed while it’s internal weighting and it’s lie angle both promote a draw. They made this driver out of 811 Ti in the body which im my opinion is one of the very best any brand can choose at the moment while the face is made of their proprietary Ti5N Rolled titanium. They are only sold shafted with ARMRQ X shafts but thankfully Honma has a wide range of specs and flexes to choose from in the ARMRQ X Series.
Our customers who order the S-06 often have smoother tempo and slower swing speeds. I would say in the 85-90mph range is this driver’s sweet spot. Anything slower I start to consider the E-06 series by Honma. Our clients report a very nice sound and feel at impact noting a softer face than other drivers and a very pleasing not so hollow sound. I back their comments up as I know first hand Honma is one of the few brands that does acoustic testing on their prototype designs. As you see above it has a subtle gold colour effect on its crown.
Today with equipment regulations and restrictions most drivers head vs head are within 5-10 yards of each other, so the key is making sure the head and shaft’s characteristics support the attributes and flaws of your swing. It appears to me that the more ego-oriented player who takes pride in swing speed or how little offset their irons have etc.. etc.. has a harder time being real to themselves to find clubs that support their game and ultimately lower their score. On the flip side, many Honma customers do not have that same pride/ego and are more realistic about their swings limitations. It is best to be honest with yourself when choosing new clubs. It makes you much happier on the golfer course when you shoot lower scores.
In regards to the Honma Stars system for those who maybe have heard of it but do not understand it let me explain. Honma offers 2/3/4/5 star clubs. The biggest difference between them is the shaft. The shafts all have the same design but the materials are higher grade, usually higher tonne carbon is used. Then some aesthetics are changed but once you move into 4 and 5 stars it becomes bespoke where Honma is willing to do anything you request to the head within their power. We also have many clients who buy it with the 2-star shaft and swap out to a great aftermarket shaft which we highly suggest as well.
The Honma Beres S-06 Driver has a medium-high launch angle with medium spin. This spin helps the player get the ball airborne to get more distance if they do not have the swing speeds to lift the ball with lower spin. The head is deep yet they have expanded it toward the toe for some extra padding on the mishits.
They are able to be ordered with a non-conforming face at an upcharge from Japan and it does take time for them to do this. these heads will have High Cor written on the toe of its face. I hope you enjoyed reading this blog post. for a smooth, slower or senior player it is a very good option. If you swing 80-90 mph and do not have spin issues I would highly recommend it. If you swing slower than 85mph and are perhaps older you may also consider the E-06 series which we will be highlighting in a blog post in the future.

Has Honma replaced the Ladies Beres 06 and 07?
If so, which Ladies driver would that be recommended by you?
