Taylormade Royal Gloire Driver – A Graphite Composite Face… that isn’t something we see very often in golf especially a face that looks as out of the ordinary as this driver, and whats with no adjustability whatsoever? This is common in Japan yet in the states adjustability is very popular. Don’t ask why ;)
This face is a lightweight carbon material that features a new widened inverted cone technology that supposedly creates a hotter ball velocity that is stable and straight. Designed for the slower swinger, female or senior golfer it’s touted as the most premium club Taylormade has produced and with a price nearing $1500 usd it’s geared to a very specific segment. Even if that’s not you have a look at this very interesting and intriguing club, and if you are in the segment this caters to I suggest having a read by following the Jump…
So I’m not going to be able to hit this club, its not for my swing type so I’d rather offer it to someone who it matches then ask their feedback on performance.
With the composite face made of graphite composite + a thermo urethane the head sheds 30g in weight and redistributes that along the bottom of the club head, Its entire body is made of Alpha Beta Titanium which is some very good stuff, only 13* loft is available with 2 different shaft options.
Green Shaft is a low kicking 42 gram shaft playing at 46.25 inches long, obviously for the smoother slower swinger its still balanced at D3 mostly due to it’s longer length. The Silver shaft is slightly heavier at 48g with a mid kick, no flexes offered. Green is best for swing speeds of 71mph to 82mph while the Silver for 80mph to 91mph.
Taylormade does not disclose the face angle but it looks about 1.5* closed to my eye, head volume is a full sized 460cc’s.
Beautiful quality and details all around.
Above a picture of the Silver version shaft.
If you would like to purchase this is limited and few are available so head on over to the official listing, we have a great price not the 1500 mentioned but 1200 follow this link to get there: “Click Here”
I bought the previous model and the face was crazy closed – looked funny and awkward. And that face was carbon or something with grooves but it was not anything I could recommend. As for this one being slow-swing driver — I think that is all rubbish because you can shaft any head and turn it into a suitable driver for any swing speed.
Yutaka This is for a slower driver for the following reasons:
1. The face may break with faster swingers
2. The club head and full club specs are very light and soft
3. The CG, MOI, spin rates are all designed for slow swingers
4. The face angle and how the club is setup is geared toward slower swingers
Yes a faster swinger could hit it but it would not be a good result, even if there was an X flex shaft as most fast swingers require lower spin more forward CG placements and dont demand the high MOI for the lack of workability.
TourSpecGolfer Yutaka great information thanks. I swing slow so might be something for me to think about.
