The Taylormade R9 SuperDeep is already being touted as the successor to the original bad boy the deep faced 510TP. Players are shocked at the new R9 DF as the head appears from above to be in the 400-420cc range but in actuality its a 460cc superstar! It features the deepest face Taylormade has ever produced to date. No word on how many mm that equals but we will be hitting it soon at the Tokyo Golf Show and report back to you on right away.
The new Taylormade Super Deep driver features a 460cc head with ultra deep clubface and because the face is so deep the driver has a compact look. It should provide a medium trajectory but of course with taylormade you can make some adjustments to get the ball airborne a bit higher. It will also feature the new MWT and FCT technologies to help provide variable spin and variable launch for a total of 448 setup combinations.
with a total of 8WMT weights coming with it that gives you 56 different possible CG locations yet don’t think for a second that this driver is well suited for high handicap or slower swing speed players its designed for the hard hitters who desire to lower their ball flight.
In Japan it will debut with the Fujikura Motore Speeder and in the USA the new Aldila R.I.P shaft was selected and adjusted to feature a more tip stiff design which aid’s the launch angle. Available in 8.5, 9.5 and 10.5 lofts coming this March!
Just hit it today fantastic and I’man amature, witn NO handicap, made me feel like I could hit a driver, I’mgoing to the US next week I think that thing will bemine on the flight back
Just bought a 9.5 with an r.i.p stiff shaft
comes out low and runs for miles
really nice at address by far the best looking club taylormade has made
not tried changing the weights yet though
This club is sick, I am off 17 but hit a long ball this thing carried 270+ uphill into the wind…. Awesome club. I want two…
I just got this driver in a 9.5 with the RIP 70 stiff shaft and it is a bomber. This club is so much better than my R9 TP that I’m already trying to sell it to my buddies. I hit a bunch of drives past my normal spots. I have a higher trajectory than the R9 TP(1 degree less loft and higher torque shaft in R9 Tp) The shaft is much more controllable than my HD6 shaft. The head on the Superdeep is fade biased, where the R9 T9 is a draw biased head. This is a very low spin head and shaft combo. This driver is better than the R7 425 TP or the R510. In my opinion, this is by far the best driver I have ever owned and the best driver Taylormade has produced to date.

How can I raise the loft on a 9.5. and still hit a light fade?
I am a 5 index lifer at golf. My favorite driver til now was my 510TP. I have had 4 Taylormades since and none has beaten the 510 until I bought the superdeep. It is actually 10-20 yards longer with a boring trajectory, roll, and less spin. The flight is a little lower so I also bought a 10.5 degree one for winter to go with the 9.5 for summer.
Dad went over to North Carolina there for a month to visit my sister. He told me he popped in at a friend’s whose currently playing on the P.G.A tour. Had a chat to him about what i should do with my golfing career.
Very undecided if i should go to America if i get a visa or just go back to South Africa. Living in Northern Ireland at the moment and the weather is really not suited to golf unless you’ve a lot of money to spend on driving ranges. I get out once a week tops with the weather at the moment but I’m still shooting around level par, depending on weather the putter works or not. Anyway back to the driver.
Well dad told me that our friend went down to his garage and got me two putters because I’ve been looking for a putter that i feel comfortable with. I was absolutely over the moon with this news because I’ve never really had any new golf clubs. Most my equipment has been second hand or from the 90’s unless i won it in tournaments.
Well opened the box expecting two putters yesterday afternoon and off course they were there but in the box was something wrapped with a wee note from the friend. Dad managed to hide from me that our friend took his own personal driver out of his bag to give to me. Turns out it was a taylormade R9 super deep with a tour pured shaft. He told my dad id like it because you can’t buy one of them in any shop.
The shaft is going to need a lot of getting used to because my previous driver was a R7 limited with a stiff matrix shaft which went as straight as an arrow for me. my friend also had his driver set up for quite a massive fade, i remember he always hit a big draw when i used to watch him practice nothing seems to have changed accept his pay checks lol. Dad and I got a good laugh out of the fact that he still struggles to hit a fade even now that he’s hit the big time tour and really made a success out of his golfing career, and has to rely on technology to sort it out for him.
I took her out yesterday with a couple new prov1s that my brother in law sent me and she hits the ball an absolute mile. First hole at my home club is 520 odd yards and hit the drive to the 150yard marker so I’ve definitely picked up a good 20+ yards on the limited. Take into consideration i am 6ft5 and weigh 102kgs and have been hitting it over 300 on the odd occasion from the age of 15, at 18 now I’m a lot bigger and my swing is a lot better grooved so i can add a good 50+yards to a normal controlled drive. I think the fact that my normal ball flight with a driver has a huge amount of spin on it has something to do with the dramatic increase in distance that I am getting with the Super deep or maybe it’s just the tour shaft that’s in her.
A couple adjustments to the trajectory of the driver stick her in neutral and i can see my scores decreasing dramatically. Every yard extra means a shorter shot to the green. I also think this is the best looking driver ever made, and i can’t explain in words how thankful I am to my friend. This club has brought me so much happiness’ and it’s only been a day: D I can’t wait to get onto the range next summer and bomb 150-250 balls a day with her. Just one of them golf clubs that when you stand over the ball and look down at your club head behind the ball you just feel absolutely comfortable and know the ball is going to go where you want it to finish.
10/10 for taylormade on this new driver they have added to the R9 family.
Your MessageThe shaft on the Superdeep is too strong for me, can you change the shaft to a 55 or 65 grain shaft?
I recently upgraded from the R7 Superquad to the R9 Superdeep. I’ve had this driver now a couple of weeks (Merry Christmas to Me!!) I went for the Superdeep to try and acheive less spin on my drives as not mater how much I tried with stiffer shafts or less loft (my Superquad was 8.5 Deg with the weigts at the front) I couldn’t get the ball flight I wanted. It has taken a bit of getting used to with the different configurations etc. But I’ve now found the right settings for my game and I’m now getting more distance and I’m able to shape the ball better than ever. I find it more forgiving than I was told also.
If you have a quick swing speed this is well worth a go. By far the best driver I’ve ever hit
