Taylormade R11 Driver
The New Taylormade R11 Driver will be showcased at the 2011 Tokyo Golf Show and as usual you can expect GolfToImpress/TourSpecGolf to have plenty of HD Video and High Resolution Images as well as a Taylormade R11 Driver Review. last year we revelaed the Taylormade R9 TP Forged irons along with some other Japan only tid bits. Will it be the R11 DEEP or perhaps an R11 Max this year dedicated to the Japanese Market?
AST = Adjustable Sole Technology
The new acronym on the sole of the club is (AST) and it stands for Adjustable Sole Technology. Combine that with FCT and MWT and you got a lot of adjustments your able to make. It’s pretty amazing stuff if you ask me.
R11 Ghost Driver?
Around the web people are chiming in with positive & negative opinions on the fact that Taylormades future flagship model may come standard in white. This seems to be the flavor of the month or month(s) with Taylormade’s Ghost putter series and recently Cobra’s limited edition white driver. Still no word on if Taylormade will label the new R11 “ghost”, my guess is not.
Taylormade R11 TP Driver
Yup it’s a safe bet there will be the R11 TP Driver not too far down the line as well. We can figure the MSRP on the Taylormade R11 will be in the $399.00 range and with the R11TP coming in near $699.00 these are just my guesses, confirmation should be coming soon.
Were these Images Leaked too Early?
My take is that it was an intentional leak and that Taylormade knows exactly what they are doing by getting the pictures out there on the web then asking websites to take them down. It causes a stir getting websites to speculate and customers to get into a pre release frenzy. Taylormade markets product behind the scenes like no other companies. Will they ask GTI/TSG to remove the images while they spread like like fire on the web? Only time will tell…
Taylormade R11 Forged Irons?
Let’s keep going right? It’s not to far of a stretch to say the Taylormade will release R11 Irons with or soon after the release of the driver. R11 Fairway Woods, R11 Wedges, R11 TP Irons, R11 Bags & Hat’s it’s all coming! It’s also pretty safe to say the Japanese Market will be the first to announce R11 Forged Irons and R11 TP Forged Irons.
GolfToImpress will keep you guy’s updated as news comes out …
I am not into the white yet. Putters or drivers. to use to the black as it really brings the ball out.
I kinda like this one for some reason, although white is not my preference on golf equipment.
so what does AST do exactly ?
omg, it is the sickest driver i have ever seen
I’m a big fan of the white. I just think it looks so much more appealing. The only driver I’ve ever owned though was the Burner so I’m not sure about all the adjustable tech. Can only help right?
What an awesome looking driver head! Very cool engineering – The white color is interesting -I suspect it will appeal to a small number though I wonder how this white color will hold up after a year or so of high handicapper scuffs, sky balls and other typical dings that can mess up a club finish?
The adjustability should help just about any swing….Right??!
Dude the design and color is sick. want this driver so bad but iheard the price will range from $400-$600 easily, if not more
I won’t be going to the white. Just won’t work for me, no matter what anybody says to me, I can’t look at a white head, it’s too bright and distracting against white balls. Especially in the bright sunshine, even if it has a matt finish.
I’m also done with the black finish on the face, it gets seriously scuffed real quick and the metal finish looks so much better in comparison. Compared to the regular metal-faced R9 I had, my SuperTri looks like it went through hell, even though I do love my SuperTri as it goes long for me.
I wish they would just leave the white paint off the bottom and the leave the face metal.
Had the R9 for the past year and and the R7 before that, both were OK . Just been fitted with the new Titleist 910 D2…. 30 yards longer and much straighter.
Interesting with all the possible adjustability options… but, not interesting enough. The white head just does not appeal to me.
My guess is that being the opposite of black, a color that has a “slimming” effect (true), the color white will make the club appear bigger than it is. Funny about the color, I started playing golf back in the late 80s and my first Kmart-bought driver was some $25-30 job that was white.
Like to try it before buying it.
Your Message@Monty:
probably that you were fitted, as to why you are 30 yards longer, or you’re just wrong, no driver is 39 yards longer than any other unless the shaft you have now actually works correctly.
White Ghost Driver.. kinda cool agains all odds
Your Message@Anton:
adjustable sole technology….. its in the description
Seriously? People are worried about the color of the driver? So, you’re not then concerned with, say, how well you hit it? God, no wonder the rest of the world laughs at the US.
Color? Really?
white is ridiciulous on golf equipment. sure it looks sick in the store but the reflection that would come off of a white putter, let alone a white driver, would be enough for me not to buy it

hit it on the face more often…. longer isn’t necessariy better if its in the woods.
I wonder what the TP is gonna look like
Your Message@GL:
Bring it on taylormade I can,t wait you make great drivers and I,am sure the R11 will be a total success,I think white looks sensational I JUST WANT ONE the TP version all the TPs are fantastic. GREAT CLUBS TAYLORMADE.
Concur with comment on the 910D2/D3, even if Titleist copied with adjustability, they scored a home run. My guess is that the R11 won’t be much different than the R9 or the SuperTri.
It looks like TaylorMade may be labeling their Players Irons a bit different this year. I would suspect that they will have Japan versions of the MB, MC, and CB and not an R11. Mayber an R11 GI Iron and R11 Forged GI Iron. A Burner 2.0 (Japan) and a Burner Forged 2.0.
I am looking forward to seeing the Fairway and Rescue selection.
the scuffs and dings are harder to see on matte white than blackYour Message@PIstolpete:
possibly the worst looking driver ive ever seen way too much technology and in reality wont help that much anyway. jus learn how to hit a freaking golf ball and none of this ghost and ast stuff will be necessary or relevant
i believe the one pictured is tp the tp usuallly has a black face
Needs a White shaft
I hit this driver yesterday. It was given to a tour player to test. It’s long and straight with a pretty muffled sound, but I had a hard time with the white crown. It really sticks out in your peripheral vision in the back swing. Other than that its pretty sweet.
looks a tidy club

i concuur. no wonder people laugh at the us! people sit here and argure about the color a driver is instead of the way it preforms! WERE STUPID!!!
OK OK OK, everybody calm down. LOL
It’s coming out next month, so we’ll all know how it’s going to be. But, in the meantime, a couple of thoughts:
1. ASP. The adjustable sole plate. So, this is a worthless piece of tech. There are plenty of us in the world who DO NOT PUT THE CLUB ON THE GROUND AT ADDRESS WITH A DRIVER! A lot of us like to FLOAT the club behind the ball. For example, look at Bubba Watson! Do you think he needs help in face alignment when he puts the driver behind the ball on the tee? TM should’ve thought of another way to make the face angle adjustable – oh yeah that’s right they already had it correct on the R9!!!
2. Is it really 6 yards longer than the R9? This would be the ONLY reason why I would use it – I already hit my R9 longer by 8 yards than my pervious driver, and if it’s longer than that, I might consider it, even though it’s got a white head.
i think the r11 would be succesful but the white club head lets the performance of it down, i’ve tryed in america 2 weeks ago. Not worth the money
whats the difference in te tp and the regular driver?
@Your Name:
The TP comes with a heavier, stiffer shaft option. Otherwise the head is the same.
@Geet:
You don’t know what your talking aboutd! Whether you hover your driver or not is irrelevent it’s about the face angle!
@Diggler:
Er, no, Diggler, you don’t understand how it works. TM is EXPECTING you to lay the club absolutely SQUARE and FLAT on the ground, and also are EXPECTING you to GRIP the club PROPERLY in LINE with the way the club-face sits square to TARGET at address with the ball. IF you were to GRIP it WRONG – i.e. if you are FLOATER of the club, most likely you DO NOT NEED the ASP, as it will not effect the way you GRIP the ball as you will line the face up SQUARE to the target no matter HOW you GRIP THE CLUB AS YOU HOLD IT/FLOAT it behind the ball on the TEE.
IF you were to HOLD the face SQUARE to the ball as you FLOAT the club at address, more than likely you will be FORCED to change your grip if you FAVOR a certain way that the ball is going to fly. For example, if you are a FADER of the ball, where your ballflight is CONSISTENTLY left-to-right, the ASP is useless because more than likely you can achieve that ballflight even with a CLOSED face because you will open your stance and hit the ball from outside-in, with the CLOSED face square to the target LINE, and NOT the where you EXPECT the ball to come to rest at the end of the shot.
The whole purpose of this ADJUSTABLE club is that you are EXPECTED to make a SQUARE SWING to create a certain ballflight, where the CLUBHEAD’s adjustability is what creates the desired ballflight, instead of a MANUFACTURED swing from YOU to make it fly a certain way. Thus, if you DO NOT put the clubhead DOWN on the ground, you WILL NOT SEE the clubface ANGLED the way the clubhead is telling you, because you will make it face ANY direction you want by floating the head and ADJUSTING your OWN GRIP instead! Sort of defeats the purpose if you’re going to tinker with the way you GRIP the club if the clubhead is already doing that for you, isn’t it?
Why don ‘t you write a bloddy essay next time idiot! So you think that being able to adjust the loft without affecting face angle is usless? Your brain is useless dickhead! Why did you even bother buying a R9? C-cksmoker! Your Message@Geet:
Yeah Geet I agree with Diggler, your just sour because you won’t have the latest and greatest anymore, I don’t like white, I don’t like black faces you sound like a whinging whiny little f-ck!
Pretty hard to adjust your grip without placing the club on the ground first . . . . Geet
@John L:
You’re obviously not a very good player, John L. What do you mean it’s pretty hard to adjust the grip without putting it down first? You just validated what I just said! It’s so easy to adjust the grip to make the face of the club point any direction you want, is it not? All you have to do is push your hands there, pull your arm here, or turn the grip around this way or that – so what’s the point of having any adjustability in the clubhead at all, if you’re just going to put the club in your “comfortable” spot in your grip and swing like you normally would to make the ball fly a certain way? Defeats the purpose of having adjustability do the work for you, if you’re just going to change your grip, change your stance and change your swing. Duh.
@Diggler:
Diggler, you really do not understand, do you? And, you misread what I wrote. AND, I said, the R11 expects you to put the clubhead down on the ground for the ASP to work to help you point the clubface in the direction to which you make the adjustment. But if you float the club behind the ball and adjust the clubhead to your comfort zone, then why do you need the ASP piece at all then, if you’re going to do it in your hands?

“….when it is laid FLAT on the GROUND.”
Will I be able to put this driver head on a R9 Shaft I just purchased?
Will there be r11 irons and wedges
right… Titleist longer than TaylorMade… thats why Fred Couples, John Daly and plenty others play Taylormade Drivers even when they dont get paid to play them. Maybe you just got the right shaft in the titleis head but its ridiculous for you to say a Titleist driver is longer than a Taylormade.Your Message@Monty:
I WANT IT
Hi Happy New Year to all my fellow golfers. Must say what great quality photos you have displayed on the site. Looking forward to hitting the R11 and the fairway woods when they come out. As a TM player for many years I do think they bring out too many models too close to eachother. When are you going to be getting the new forged irons in? also have you hit with them yet. I am using the R9 japan model but want a bit more forged feel but not lose the forgiving capacity when not hit off the middle.
Thanks Ross Van Nairn,England
Can’t wait to rub my nuts on this driver
When is this tears Japan golfshow? Usually 3rd week of Feb, right? I will be there and check it out….
Your Message@Steve:
I hope that you can put this head on a R9 TP shaft, that would seal the deal for me
Your Message@Steve:
The sleeve is supposed to be the same. You should be able to interchange the shafts back and forth between the R11 and R9.
youve got it all wrong the starting price is 350 to 400 but you got to do a lot of crap on the driver to get it up to 600
Ylove the look. something different. pros are already hitting it, and looks like they are bombing it . moght have to try oneour Message
got one awesome
my pro took me onto the tee yesterday with the new r11 with all setting on neutral, i am a 2 handicapper and knocked it off the heel far enough for him to walk and retreave it. the next few shots were no better. a quick twist here and a torque there and the ball was sailing over the 250 yard marker with a gentle draw, it was that easy. played this morning with my new driver, magic, thank you Ian robertson pga professional
Your MessagTook out my old Taylor Made and spray painted it white with little red markings just like the picture. I wanted to see if the white annoyed me before investing a bunch of money in sales hype. Saved a bunch…the white is very annoying and scuffs easily. There will be a ton of these on e Bay very soon very cheap.
I am a very low hadicapper and I got this driver in my hands today. This has to be one of the coolest things I have ever hit….It has a very muted sound but feels very crisp. The white head looks great again the green grass. Also, if the head was not cool enough that new Blur shaft is awesome. I have the stiff flex with open face and down half a degree….just SWEET!!!
Always been a Ping man just tried the R11 standard driver reg shaft loved it bought it and the tree wood and rescurs love them. Cant wait for the irons to be on sale, dont even think about the white crown when I am watching the ball fly miles down the fairway. Its a winner for me.
.
Hit the R11 tp this weekend, was not impressed at all! Felt dead off the face, could not work the ball to the right at all. I’m a 2 handicap that has never had trouble fading the ball and I could not move the ball right. It was almost unexplainable, I tried boomerang slicing it and it went straight. I had no issue with the white face, after about 3 swings it was second nature. I understand that we as amateurs don’t hit the same clubs as the pro’s but their is no way in hell they can even be close to the mass production models. This club will not be in my bag this year. Sorry Taylormade!
The only diff between the TP and reg is the TP has 65 gram shaft and the reg is 6o gramYour Message@Caleb:
Your Message No thanks! My exotics driver hits straighter than 50 drivers I tried before it and I need no adjustments for it
Another Idea- why dont you learn to hit the ball straight and work it to the left and right. The technology is a gimic., and ? Perhaps you could Your Message@Geet:
Absolutely. But learning how to hit the ball straight, draw, and fade it is the easy way out. It’s not that need another excuse to buy new golf equipment, but it helps. I tried this driver yeaterday and it is very nice. Good distance, consistent, and a good sound and a solid feel at impact. The white face is, or should be, a non-issue. Good job Taylormade!
It’s awful. I feel like I’m playing a video game. Too much overkill. I guess Taylormade is having to do something to justify that big price tag. By June it will be 50% off.
i know this sounds crazy but how do you get the all white R11 headcover?
I have an TaylorMade R9 that i hit great, but this driver launched the ball high and boring, and it carried farther than the R9 because of less ball spin. The white head is something I’m trying to get used to, and so far so good. Hyped club, but it performs.
Your Message
I had the opportunity to play the R11 and at first the white head was a little unorthodox but it great on me. I do agree that it picks up in your peripherals but not enough to make a difference in the swing. If you are keeping your eyes and head on the ball that should not matter anyways, but personal preference. I liked the solid feel and muffled sound upon solid contact. I was hitting the 9 degree with a S55 Fujikura shaft and putting it out there about 285 consistently. Great feel and recommended.
I also would recomment the MIzuno MP 68 irons they are fabulous.
Tried the Titleist 910 D3 9.5 degree vs R11 9 degree with Adilia RIP a 60 Shafts – Stiff Flex….. Result once both clubs were upright playing 1o.25 deg 910 and 10 deg 911 found the 910 carried 7-10 yards further in the air with another 5-7 yards roll. All together 910 gave ME exta 15 consistently, former professional, avg 285-295 off the tee…. Liked both but liked trajectory and overall playability of Titleist over Taylor Made.
If your worried about how its going to hold up after a year with putting dings in the top of drivier etc then why dont you save your $400 and go buy some lessons on how to hit the ball? Just saying……kills me to see people go out and spend $400 on a driver and they can’t hit it 150 yards nor straight. YOU STILL HAVE TO SWING THE CLUB! Aint enough technology available to make a 25 handicapper a 7 just with a driver. Spend your money on the club you use every hole…a PUTTER.

I was curious if you ever considered changing the
layout of your blog? Its very well written; I love what youve got to
say. But maybe you could a little more in the
way of content so people could connect with it better. Youve got an awful lot of text for only having 1 or 2 pictures.
Maybe you could space it out better?
