Round 1 has come and gone at the Crowne Plaza Invitational and some seriously great golf was being played by some seriously great golfers to make Round 1 worth remembering at Colonial. The best thing about a golf tournament, the best possible scenario, is when the golf being played in Round 1 sets up for an even more exciting final 3 rounds, and it looks like that might just be the case here at Colonial this weekend.
From Vijay to Stricker: Great Golf Being Played
With a few players playing some Great golf, including Vijay Singh, who made an impressive “welcome back” showing considering he hasn’t played here since 2003 after he made those altogether infamous comments about allowing a woman, at the time it was Annika Sorenstam, to play in the same field as the PGA Men’s players. During his noticed absence during the 2003 Colonial, he was boo’d and made fun of via t-shirts and hats worn by hundreds of players in the gallery. Looks like all that boo’ing and jeering went away yesterday as fans went crazy for his 5-straight birdies and rooted for him the entire way to his first round -6.
Vijay Tries To Improve on 2nd Round
We’ll see how the fans, and Vijay react to the second round as he is slated to tee off at approximately 12:34 EST. Already On the course, however, is another player who performed extremely well yesterday, Steve Stricker. He finished off a stroke ahead of Vijay and in a great position and so far today has only improved upon that. Sitting at -2 for today and firmly in the lead at -9, he’s looking to finish out as strong as he started out.
It’s Getting Good!
I swear we say it every time, but every week the golf gets better and better and we haven’t had a boring or poor showing from any of the tournaments that have taken place. Tune in, it’s getting good!
