Round 3 is in full swing, and while we’re just now seeing yesterday’s leaders tee off, we’ve already seen some great golf, and some great sportsmanship and sense of community at the Travelers Championship. As you are probably aware, Champions Tour golfer Nick Green was recently involved in an automobile accident that took the lives of his brother, who is also his caddie, and his girlfriend. While Green survived the terrible accident, he was forced to have his right leg amputated due to injuries sustained in the wreck. Today, golfer’s at the Travelers Championship are paying tribute, and sending donations.
Green Ribbons for Ken Green
On the course today, many players are wearing Green ribbons, to honor Ken Green for all of his trials and tribulations, as well as his brother and girlfriend who passed away due to the accident. According to the PGA:
“players will have the option at registration of completing a form where they can pledge a contribution to a Trust the TOUR has established to assist Green. Fans can also make a donation to the Trust, with all money going to ease Green’s financial burden.”
Golfers Pulling Together
Great to see them all pulling together to help out a fellow golfer. As far as pulling together throughout this tournament, however, that’s where it ends as the golf being played is heating up and the race to the top spot is getting intense. This week is shaping up to be a week where a first-time winner might actually appear, and one of those just birdied his first two holes to tie current leader Kenny Perry at -11. In the event John Merrick, who just tied Perry, does win, he’d be a first-time winner…also trying to be a first-time winner are Charlie Wi, who is playing exceptional golf and is a bit off the lead at -7, and Kris Blanks who is also making moves and sits at -7.
Round 4 Could Be Tight
The bottom line is, if Round 3 continues this way, we’re going to be facing a roller coaster of a Round 4 tomorrow. If the weather can hold, they’ve had a bit of rain so far, we could be looking at one heck of a finish this weekend. Tune in!
Who is Nick Green? Do you mean Ken Green?
