Looks like the Buick Open is already shaping up to be another Limbo tournament. By Limbo tournament, we of course mean “how low can you go!?” That’s right, Round 1 has kicked off and while we’ve yet to see Tiger Woods tee off, we’re already seeing scores dropping like flies and a leader that’s sitting at a very impressive -9 after blasting home a first round 63.
23 Golfers at -4 Or Better
What’s even more impressive, is that there are a host of golfers that are just off the lead, in fact, as of the time of writing, there are 23 golfers that are at -4 or better. In the first round. Not too bad, not too bad at all. As mentioned, Tiger Woods has yet to tee off, but that hasn’t stopped current leader Steve Lowery from hitting the course running. He started off the day on the back nine, and his round at one point included four-straight birdies. Considering he hit all but three greens in regulation and only missed three fairways, I’d say it’s safe to assume that, and his proximity to the hole on his approach shots, helped set up his impressive 63 today.
Where is Vijay?
PGATour mentioned something interesting, that needed answering, and thankfully was. We know Tiger’s won this event twice and been 2nd twice, we know Jim Furyk has won here and played well every other time, and we know that they are both here, accounted for and playing, but meanwhile, Vijay Singh is not. Vijay has won this event three times, and yet is nowhere to be found.
FedEx Defense For Vijay
According to reports, however, Vijay is preparing for six tournaments he’s signed on for in both August and September and four of them are Playoff events. Translation: Vijay wants to be fresh to try to defend his FedEx Cup Title. Simple enough, right?
Tune In!
Nevertheless, tune in today because Tiger is gearing up to tee off, and that’s when things should get really interesting. Can Lowery’s lead hold out? Will Tiger play like Old Tiger, or British Open Tiger? It’s getting good.
