The countdown is over and we’re officially in the thick, well about to be in the thick, of one of golf’s many exciting tournaments each year…the Memorial Tournament. As you probably know, it’s held at the Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio and this year it’s going to be populated with some of the biggest and best names in all of golf, including, yes, Tiger Woods.
Great Golf Being Played
Not only is Woods taking part in this year’s Memorial Tournament, he’s looking to take home the trophy for not the first, second or third time, but for the fourth time in his career. The bad news is, you’re going to have to wait a bit longer to see Tiger officially in action as he’s not slated to tee off for the start of Round 1 until 12:43 Eastern Time. That isn’t to say there isn’t great golf already being played, a simple glance at the top of the leaderboard will alert you that Tiger or no Tiger, Luke Donald showed up to play.
Luke Donald Is Here To Play
That’s right, Donald is resting in the clubhouse having already posted a Round 1 score of an impressive -8. He acheived that first round 64 by putting on an absolute show for the gallery on his closing nine holes. He birdied 8 of his final 9 holes and put himself firmly in the lead by 4 strokes.
NBA Finals Serve As Distraction to Tiger?
The question is, and reports are bringing this up left and right, how much of a mental toll will the upcoming NBA Finals have on Tiger’s game? Will he stay up late tonight to watch Game 1 between two teams he is highly invested with, the Orlando Magic and the L.A. Lakers? When asked where his loyalties will lie, here’s what he had to say:
“Obviously, I live in Orlando and root for the Magic, but I’m from L.A,…Grew up watching Magic and Kareem and Worthy and Byron and all those teams. Before that, McAdoo and Nixon, you name it. It is hard. It is hard. But I’m from L.A.”
Tiger Can Spare The Distraction
Let’s just hope his mind is more on golf and less on basketball during his round today. One thing is for sure though, if anyone in the world can think of both at the same time and STILL perform, it’s Tiger. Tune in.
