It appears that Paul Goydos has a bit of a point to prove. After surging out to a Round 1 lead by shooting a 63, he was tied with Justin Leonard and sitting in the club house probably feeling pretty good about things. when Round 2 started and people started making moves up and down the leaderboard, it looks like Goydos went out and played one heck of a round with something to prove.
Goydos Atop Leaderboard
Right now, there are moves being made on the leader board as we speak, but neither Paul Goydos, the leader who is sitting at -12, or the five men tied for second place at -9 have even teed off yet. Goydos will tee off at 1:00 today while the 5 men tied for second will tee off at 12:40 and 12:50. Sitting on a three stroke lead over three-time PGA Champion Justin Leonard and others is new territory for Goydos and this marks his largest ever lead in a PGA event. Impressive.
Weather Hammers Valero
The bad news, for all you golf fans, is that currently play at the Valero Texas Open is suspended due to weather. According to PGATour.com:
“The latest on the weather holding up play at the Valero Texas Open is that it will be at least another hour before it clears and that it will take upwards of 2 hours to get the course ready for play as rain from the thunderstorms overhead hammer the course.”
Stay tuned, as they should be able to resume play shortly and we’ll get to see just how Goydos holds up to the increasing pressure of being in the lead entering the 3rd round. Many have tried, many have failed to maintain it.
Valero Is Heating Up!
If we’ve said it once, we’ve said it a million times…tune in, it’s getting good!
