PRGR has 4 different product series of gear such as the RS, RED, egg, Sweep (ladies). Today I’ve got some photos of the new Red series irons. It uses a thin walled titanium face insert + vibration dampening material called “flash one” low cg all that good stuff a multi piece iron design gets to have. So it’s all about distance and forgiveness with these and best part is they don’t look super chunky. More pics and comments after the jump…
As you can see in the photo above the top line is not that thick and the amount of offset is proper not exaggerated. These will go toe to toe agains irons like the Honma BeZeal, XXIO, TM Gloire, ONOFF AKA and more. One step bigger moves into super game improvement designs that have thicker top lines, wider soles, stronger lofts and at times more offset.
The face 5-9 iron is a thin walled titanium called rolled LD433P, the body uses a soft impact stainless steel ST-22 5-PW. All irons have tungsten alloy weight embedded into the sole to further lower the CG.
The problem with 2+ piece designs is they never feel as pure as the 1 piece. Deciding between a pure dense feel at impact over a more hollow and loud sound is something that needs to be considered. 2 piece designs provide better distance and forgiveness. As i mentioned this RED Titan has “flash one” vibration absorbing material to counter the sound. In the end the Red Titan Face has a springy yet numb thwack to it, it has a touch of crunch which I find addictive. For those in the know,
I only hit #7 demo irons and the stock shafts are not ideal for my swing but I can hit a noodle slowing it all down and the distance is very good. Forgiveness is off the charts for it’s size and I thank the Deep deep undercut for it. Lofts are not that jacked relative to some. 42 on the PW will give you an idea who these are for. In the Super GI irons that TourSpecGolf sells some are at 38 on the P-dub!
The leading edge also has a really nice grind and there is a roundness and tapering of thin to thick on the sole that I like. The trailing edge also has somewhat of a grind. Notice the sole is brushed satin while on the back face around the cavity it’s chrome mirror. This is one of the best sole shapes in this segment meaning it makes clean and easy contact with the ground.
Nice shape to the face, Those who are mid handicappers who are open to a 2 piece head that’s a little larger than mid size are likely to love these. If you are too player for these you need to be looking at the RS Forged Here. Sold standard 5-PW with optional #4 or set matching yet different style wedges in 51 or 57*. The wedge is complete with a QPQ (anti-rust) finish in black.
TSG can factory or aftermarket custom order custom shafts/specs. They offer the KBS Tour 105, PRGR Ver2 Wedge Steel S200, a new M-37 NSPRO ultra light, and the speed impact carbon shaft. Please inquire to [email protected] for custom, if you seek standard options here is a link directly to the proshop listing Here.
Which gives more power to golfer – Lighter or heavier iron?
A new kinetic energy theory is seeping into whole ranges of golf clubs. Effectively it’s all about swinging at the same speed, but getting the head travelling quicker at impact. The thinking reduces shaft weight (or plays with its profile so weight is nearer the head) and increases head weight to allow golfers to gain extra clubhead speed even though they swing at the same pace.
