Taylormade has made another adjustment to their adjustable FCT shaft sleeve that controls the features in their new R9 series drivers. This time Taylormade was able to shave 2 grams off of the total weight of it and while many of you think 2 grams isn’t a lot this is a breakthrough.
3 years ago I was able to speak with driver manufactures and they were very pessimistic about these new adjustable sleeves due to the weight. At that time the lightest they could make one was around 10 grams. For those of you who understand the basics of club making 10 grams is a huge amount to add near and inside the hosel area, It demands a change in the design of the golf club to counter balance the extra weight. Well Taylormade has brought the weight down quite a bit since then and in it’s most recent version made some adjustments keeping the strength of the sleeve the same while making it lighter.
This in my opinion is a move in the right direction and just goes to show that golf technology is ever improving and moving forward.
