I know there are many people who have played 36 holes or more in a day but up to last week I had never played over 18 holes in Japan in one day. In Japan the golfing day is long… 2 1/2 hours IN then 1 hour for lunch and 2 1/2 hours OUT then another 1+ hour for a hot bath Japanese style and shower making it a 7 hour day. (It can be even longer when some clubs offer breakfast included as well.) Because of this I’ve never gotten around to playing more than 18 holes as the typical Japananese golf club begins wrapping up service around 5-6pm and most people are off the course between 4-5pm. Plus the pace can be slow sometimes as slow play is rarely ever enforced.
Last week I played 27 holes for the first time spread across two different golf clubs. My neighbors Taka, Aki and I headed over to Nouvelle Golf Club in the morning, a quick 5 minute drive from our house and did the round of 18 including lunch. The pace was fast as it was a hot day and not so many players were out. We finished at 2:30 pm and decided to head back home to our own course at Kiminomori for a back 9. It was a fun day of 27 holes and easy to do since both courses are so close to one another. It was a relief to be able to drive home in 2 minutes after words as I was tired from golf and watching world cup soccer late the night before!
What’s the most number of holes you’ve played in a day?

I once played 98 holes in a day with a fellow assistant at a club I use to work. It was a fundraiser for our Junior Program and we raised a lot of money so we could take them to play an Inter club match some distance away.
We rode in carts so it wasn’t that hard but it was still tiring at the end as we played for 18 hours!
36 holes during a Japan summer is unbearable! But you got a nice tan :)
I’ve played a Japan course once. I wasn’t used to the 1 hour lunch break. After the big meal and a couple beers, but contact was just not the same… But i was an experience to remember.
At the beginning I had the exact same problem. I was terrible always after lunch… breaking momentum and getting so full… I felt more like taking a nap than playing the next 9…. I’m used to now… always go for the soba… lighter than rice!
