The Mizuno JPX series has been a Japan Only product for the last 4+ years. In 2010 Mizuno released the base line JPX 800 & 800 pro model irons in the USA. There are no plans to release the line up like the ENDO Forged models of past or the JPX AD series as well as the latest two driver releases the JPX 800 & 800S Drivers.
There are two models scheduled for official release at the Tokyo Golf Fair, I’d like to highlight the one that I am most excited about the 440cc 800S model. Coming in with a stock club length of 46 inches the JPX 800S has a new circular wall thickness behind the face that creates maximum resiliency that translates into more distance and forgiveness.
What’s really cool is that Mizuno has inserted a tungsten sheet that weighs 13 grams into the shaft near the grip section dubbed ” Power Maximizer ” The theory behind this is that longer clubs are less stable during the swing. Mizuno added the tungsten sheet to give the player the stability of a 44″ driver with the distance potential of a 46″ length.
This is interesting to me because I do notice more distance with longer drivers and better accuracy with shorter lengths. With shorter drivers I hit the center of the club face more often than with longer shafts. The new power maximizer tech that Mizuno in theory provides the best of both worlds. It leaves me wondering if this tungsten sheet below the grip affects the feel of the shaft as its common knowledge that stiff butt ends feel boardy.
Made in Japan? Yup it’s supposedly produced by ENDO which means its an absolute killer. It face is made of FORGED Ti-6Al-4V while the body is also Titanium alloy Forged. Kudo’s to Mizuno Japan their top 3 drivers the MP Craft, and both 800 series drivers are made in the world’s best golf club factory ENDO.
There is also the standard 460cc JPX driver, its pretty much the samething in a bigger package with a sweet spot that is 3.5mm vs 3.4mm. It’s face is a bit more circular as well and just the slightest bit more shallow.
Available in 9.5 & 10.5 lofts with a the standard JPX MD100 shaft in S,SR, R ( Thats the shaft with the 13g Tungsten Sheet ). You may order just about every custom shaft on the market factory installed through TSG. Look forward to some live pics and reviews in the coming month!
Interesting ideas and worth seeing if they help. I think the shorter shafts give more control for a few reasons and one of them is because you simply feel more secure and confident with the shorter length club. A few new drivers for 2011 are featuring more rounded faces.
what happened to MP Craft 425+ ?
It was recently released, Forged Ti made in Japan! I love the MP Craft series, it’s what the USA needs, It’s made by Endo thus its too expensive for the U.S market.
ah, ok, thought it got delayed or something. found it but the only shaft choice is Ahina in different flexes and weights. some customization options like lie, length and ?swingweight? also offered. pricing seems to be inline with everything else JDM, its about ¥68,000.@Tourspecgolfer:
I notice that Mizzy, like a number of other manufacturers, is coming out with 440’s vs. 460’s that have been the trend for a while now. Why the shift to the smaller size and why don’t these guys put out a 10 degree loft?
correction: seems to be available with all major shaft brands and flexes.@Anton:
