It’s been two months since Phil Mickelson left the PGA Tour and he’s been missed every single day since. While he’s been very quiet to reporters and hasn’t given a real interview for quite some time, I suppose the simple fact that he’s officially committed to playing in the 2009 PGA Championship means that things must be going a bit better at home, and that, is the best news we’ve had in a long time.
Long Two Months for Phil & Family
As you know, over two months ago Phil’s wife Amy was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent surgery around July 1st. Heartbreakingly, Mickelson learned that his mother also had breast cancer around that exact time. To say it’s been a very trying summer for Phil is an understatement of epic proportions and we truly hope things are starting to turn around.
Tiger & Furyk Sound Off…
When asked, Tiger Woods and Jim Furyk both were excited to see Phil back and both had things to say. Tiger was quoted as saying:
“Well, if he’s playing, things are going better at home, If things were not going well, then I don’t think he’d play. So it’s a positive sign to see him out here playing.”
Jim Furyk added to the kind words and the well wishes:
“Hopefully his wife is doing well, and I think the fact he’s coming out is a good sign that she is.”
Phil to Play PGA & Barclays
Whatever the case may be, all of us here at GolfToImpress hope that things really are turning around for the Mickelson family, and that his committing to play in the ’09 PGA Championship is indeed a sign of better things to come. He released a tiny statement that in addition to the PGA, he’ll also be playing in the Barclays Golf Tournament two weeks after the PGA.
Huge Cheers To Come
One thing you can guarantee, when he does step onto the tee box on that first hole, the cheer and support for him will be the biggest and the best on the course. Welcome Back Phil…even if it’s just for now.
Glad to see Mickelson playing again! Really looking forward to the 09 PGA Championship.
