Introducing TAKUMI JAPAN, a brand owned and operated by the president of KYOEI GOLF factory Keisuke Sakamoto. The TAKUMI brand inherits the tradition and forging technology of the Kyoei Golf factory for more than 60 years. “Takumi” is a Japanese word to describe Artisans of the greatest achievements and mastery of what they do. Kyoei Golf Industry would certainly qualify to be calling themselves “Takumi” of Japanese golf club manufacturing.
In particular, Takumi Japan has a reputation for know-how in product development cultivated through their vast experience in OEM manufacturing. Overall the brand’s designs are based on what Japanese golfers would like so don’t be surprised with the offset, shape or specs. Takumi names it’s models Vintage and Traditional precisely for this reason.
Today we are looking at only 2 of the brand’s irons. We will highlight the rest of their unique product line up in the coming weeks ahead.
Takumi Japan Type N Iron
The back face of the Type-N is CNC milled and polished with very smooth and unique details that give the impression of flow. The Type-N is a soft forged players cavity back that is the most compact cavity iron in the brand’s line up.
The brand put’s an emphasis on using a different type of finishing in various parts of the head such as bead blasting, Arakenma raw grain, and beautifully handcrafted polished aesthetics.
As you can see from the spec table and photos below the Type-N is made with strong lofts and a lot of offsets. One of the few brands taking this direction on the market today.

Takumi Japan Type N Wedge
The Type-N Wedge is an interesting case, It should flow with the Type-N iron as it shares the same series name but the specs say otherwise. TSG would recommend a different wedge unless you welcome more offset and larger size in your wedges. The Type-S wedge would blend best with the Type-N.
The Type-N wedge features an oversized head that caters to the average player. Due to it’s increased head size and shape, this wedge wobbles less at impact improving straightness and accuracy. In addition, by making the neck shape what we consider very much a gooseneck, it is easier to pick the ball up from the turf. Since the leading edge has been blunted down more than a typical tour model wedge, it makes it harder to chunk your small chip shots around the greens as well.
The deep channels at the center of the back face are cut away to achieve a higher center of gravity. You can stop the ball at the target with high spin performance. In addition, the excess weight that has been removed is redistributed to the toe and heel portions which resulted in a higher MOI head. It is designed to be more resistant to mis-hits improving confidence around the greens.

Takumi Japan Type S Wedge
The Type-S wedge by Takumi has a CNC milled face and grooves, this creates sharper scorelines and better spin performance by approx 20%. The Type-S is more compact players wedge which in my opinion would blend best with Takumi’s KMB blade or their Type-S or N iron.
The Type-S wedge has a teardrop shape, less offset combined with a grind for those who desire to manipulate the face for the flop or more creative shots.
The entire head has a beautiful bead blast finish that is matte and reduces glare.
Among the normal soft carbon steel material “S25C”, only carefully selected material with a carbon content of 0.24 to 0.26% is used. By handpicking a material with consistent carbon content, the spread of iron in the single-piece forging process is stable, and there is very little variation in weight.
