Some of you may have read about my visit to Gold’s Factory to have Master Sasaya grind a set of wedges to my liking. If you didn’t read the post you can see it here along with many photos.
After I left, there was more fine grinding and polishing to make the wedge smooth and ready for engraving.
I requested just the Gold’s Factory Logo and dots to signify loft, 1 dot for the 52* and 2 dots for the 58*.
Gold’s wedges can be finished in several looks, raw, raw polished, raw gun blue, plated chrome, plated satin, plated copper, plated teflon black and plated soft black. I had seen several Gold’s putters in the soft black so I thought it would be cool to try it on the wedges. I decided on translucent red for the G and F in Gold’s Factory and for the dots as well. The wedges were to be shafted with Modus3 Stiff and Red Iomic Sticky grips with white caps.
The wedges arrived today and I must say I am very pleased with the looks and finish . The soft black looks great and even with the plating you can still see the fine mill marks on the face. The grind and shape turned out perfect and the paintfill and logo look just right. Check out the pics!
I’m in Love…. Can’t wait to visit the Master on my next trip to Japan and have him grind me a couple of wedges
They look gold colored in the pictures. Is this an effect of lighting or a true representation of the color? I am considering ordering 2 of these but can’t decide on the finish.
They were taken right before sunset so there could have been a bit of a goldish tint. Soft black is almost a greyish bronze.
I’m curious Gocchin, the bounce of these wedges looks very different to traditional wedges I see here in Australia.
There appears to be two levels on the bottom instead of the normal one smooth layered area.
Do you know what the theory behind this is?
it’s the W grind
