With the upcoming launch of the all new Callaway Japan Legacy Tour driver as posted by Tourspecgolfer earlier, Callaway held a mini test session at the Callaway Virtual Test Center here in Japan. They invited Australian Brendan Jones, a Callaway Japan top pro on the JPGA Tour to come and test the club. The Legacy Tour with its short CG placement, traditional shape and fade biased low spin head is aimed at the better golfer. The flatter 57* lie is optimal for the better player and the redesigned hosel will create stable control.
Brendan spent time on the launch monitor at the virtual test center and demonstrated some very good numbers with the new Legacy Tour. They did not track his head speed but the ball speed was an incredible 170.8 mph with a 12.3* launch angle and only 1987 rpm back spin. Side spin was a very low 183 rpm and overall trajectory was a soft fade with 284 yards of carry and an amazing 25 yards roll for a total of 309 yards!
This looks to be one hot driver…. We’ve added the driver to the pro shop for pre-order here!
What shaft did he use?
He tested with numerous GD Tour AD Japan shafts including the PT Series and Quattro Tech. Callaway did not say which specific Tour AD was in the head at the time of that shot.
Man, oh, man !…Look at that arm to shaft angle at impact. Talk about de-lofting a Driver head. That move is the secret that most Pro’s have that causes those prodigious distances these guys hit the ball.
