Last weekend TourSpecGirl and I celebrated a late valentines day at one of our favorite resturaunts Joel Robuchon located at the Yebisu Garden Place in Tokyo. Robuchon’s has 3 michelin stars the highest rating any restaurant can receive and Tokyo has more michelin star restaurants than any other city in the world by a large margin.
We have eaten at the Las Vegas Robuchon restaurant and enjoyed their 16 course tasting menu but still ranked it behind Napa’s The French Laundry ( Yountville ) which hardcore foodies believe is the best restaurant in the world, That is debatable In my opinion.
Robuchon’s is housed in a reproduction of an 18th century French chateau hidden in the center of one of Japan’s most stunning gardens. I think there are 3-4 restaurants in the chateau all different variations of Robuchon but the top floors “Joel Robuchon restaurant” is the place to be. In the evening you only have the choice of one menu and it takes up the entire night with 17 courses, we enjoyed Oscietra Caviar, Breton Lobsters, imported Foie Gras, and huge slices of white truffles. I forget what else we had as I had to order the wine course to go along with the meal and 17 wine tastings is an extremely difficult thing to get through. I have never experienced wine so amazing, each tasting was a half glass, everything was imported from France. I’ve been to many restaurants in Paris and never came across anything that was as good as what was served that evening.

Let me just say that The Tokyo Joel Robuchon smokes the Las Vegas restaurant with ease as we found the ingredients on an entirely different level. I feel it’s because it’s located in Japan and the Japanese when obbsessed create the best of everything. The Las Vegas resturaunt is nice yet had a more modern appeal while the Tokyo had a Neo French ambiance. You must arrive dressed to the nines and you better have an empty stomach as near the end you may be gasping for air and trying to maintain your focus. The meal costs about 400 usd per person and if you want the wine tasting +200 usd. It’s expensive but worth every penny especially for the one you love.
Check out the images below, The lighting was not good and I was honestly embarrassed to take pics of my food in such a nice restaurant so I aplogize for the blur.
