Cleveland CG15 Wedges!
Ever since SRI Sports purchased Cleveland Golf we have seen a major improvement in the products released since then. The brand seems to be more focused on using better materials, manufactures, and technology now. GTI first caught wind of a new CG15 FORGED Japan Only wedge several months ago and only now receved the skinny on what makes these wedges such an improvement over many previous versions.
“Laser Milling”
The concept behind Laser Milling is that it is totally computer controlled and precise leaving accurate milling marks and more complicated designs on the face. Cleveland is still able to increase spin & groove volume even with the new groove rule taking effect. The new CG15 is conforming to the new USGA ruling.
The New S-Grind
The CG15 Wedge features a new grind never used before by Cleveland Golf named the S Grind. Cleveland developed this new grind based on dozens of opinions from USPGA professional tour players. This not only provides a versitile wedge but also adds stability to a grind that allows you to manipulate the face. This helpful effect is magnified in poor playing conditions like rain, sand, and rough allowing a more stable performance in a variety of situations determined by the spin.
CG15 FORGED Made 100% in JAPAN!
As usual Cleveland made various finishes for player preference along with a DSG version that doesnt feature the S-Grind. This year they went the extra mile and produced the FORGED model 100% made in Japan. Not since the Limited Edition Miura Cleveland wedge set have we seen a Cleveland wedge produced and assembled in Japan. The new CG15 is available in lofts 48, 50, 52, 54, 56, 58, & 60 degrees.
What I see, outside of the “S” Grind, is the “rounded sole” from heel to toe. A big move forward by Cleveland to get away from the flat sole configuration. Should be a winner for them.
I like. These wedges look like a giant step forward in the right direction. The folks in the USA are going to be complaining if these are Japan only releases.
I am a bit confused about the 4 models shown. Are they all forged with laser milled face or just the one black one marked ‘forged’ G15 is the only forged model and the rest are cast.
No 3 of the models are not forged and produced in China, the black wedge that says FORGED on it is he only one from the bunch made 100% in Japan and forged of S25C.
