We’re only a day away, and that fact has absolutely energized the Las Vegas betting scene. Before every major golf tournament, odds come out and we know exactly who is favored to win, who is favored to not play well, and just how much that favoritism is. Now, a day away from the British Open at Turnberry, we find out that when it comes to winning this huge tournament, Tiger Woods is the odds on favorite to take it all.
Tiger a 2-1 Fave for British
How much of a favorite? Surprisingly, despite the fact that he didn’t play in last year’s British Open, despite the fact that he’s playing against the defending champion, and despite the fact that there is a lot of great golf being played, Vegas has him sitting currently at a 2-1 favorite to take home top honors. We’re not into betting around here, but the simple fact is: If you are, NOW is the time to snatch him up as a pick, because as tee-off rolls around, those odds will likely change.
Why Such a Favorite?
This begs the question: Why? Why is Tiger such a favorite, besides the obvious fact that he’s arguably the best golfer to ever hit the ball? First, he just won. Tiger is notorious for playing well in back-to-back tournaments. Second, Phil Mickelson is not playing in this year’s British Open, opting to stay with his wife after the unfortunate and heartbreaking news about her health. Finally, if you look at the recent play by defending champion Padraig Harrington, until he took home the Irish PGA Championship last weekend, he had had one of the worst months of golf he’s seen in a long time, not making the cut in his previous 5 tournaments.
Agree or Disagree?
So, we all know everyone expects Tiger to win every tournament he plays in, now, it looks like Vegas does too. Do you agree or disagree with these odds? Do you think Tiger will win it? We only have a day left until we get to see it all go down…what do you think?
