Now I’m not a smoker but a lot of TSG clients especially Internationals are always asking and looking for a high quality American Cigar. I dont know what to say as I have no expertise in this subject so we usually send them over to our pal Jarrod at TexCigars. TexCigars.com is an internet cigar retailer and the owner, Jarrod, is a golfer. I asked him to give some recommendations and tips to many of our customers on what cigars he likes and what his customers typically ask for when it comes to a “golf course cigar”. This was his response:
“We get a lot of golfers calling in for golf course cigars. Though every cigar smoker is different most golfers want the same thing – a well-rated, flavorful cigar at a decent price! Smoking a cigar on the golf course isn’t like smoking a cigar in a luxury cigar bar. Unlike in the cigar bar where your cigar is most important, on the golf course your cigar typically takes a back-seat to your golf game. You never know what will happen to your cigar on the golf course and some golfers aren’t interested in smashing, dropping, or forgetting a $15 cigar.
A serious golfer likes a milder, easy-to-smoke cigar that isn’t going to affect his sense of balance or his clarity when it comes to reading the greens. The Oliva Gold or Corojo Bundles are a perfect cigar for this kind of golfer. Priced at $2.50 a cigar, it’s a steal of a deal and these cigars are well-respected in the cigar community. Another great cigar for this kind of golfer is the Arturo Fuente Hemingway Short Story. The benefit of this cigar is that it’s short, easy to smoke, and roughly $5 a cigar. These are also very well respected in the cigar community and handing these to the guys on the course makes an instant friend.
Conversely, the more “adventurous” golfer tends to like a stronger cigar that enhances the effects of his beer. Price and flavor of the cigar can be more important than this golfer’s score. I often recommend the very impressive Gurkha Grand Reserve Churchill. These cigars are infused with Louis XIII cognac ($1500 a bottle). Priced at about $12 a cigar, they have a great flavor, aroma, and come in a glass case with a wax seal. As an alternative to the Gurkha cognac infused cigar, another great churchill is the Tatuaje Tainos and is my personal favorite for the golf course. As one of the most flavorful cigars on the market, the Tatuaje Tainos packs tons of flavor and was rated by Cigar Aficionado as a whopping 93.
Regardless of what kind of golfer you are the cigars mentioned are always favorites on the golf course. Choose a cigar that meets the demands of your golfing and cigar smoking and you are sure to have a better time on the course!
