Round 1 is underway and while a great deal of the golfer’s are already back in the clubhouse, having posted their first round scores, many are still grinding it out. What that says to us is this: the scores, which are already ridiculously low for the first round, are probably going to continue to fall!
Co-Leaders in at -7
As of right now, the leaders for the day is sitting in the clubhouse at an incredidbly impressive seven-under-par. The leaders, Paul Goydos and Charles Warren, posted opening round 63’s to blast the Travelers Championship course at the TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut and by the looks of things, there are some golfers that haven’t even made the turn that are posting scores that are shockingly low.
Boo Weekley: -6 through 6 Holes
One of those golfers, Boo Weekley, is just now passing through his 6th hole of the day and is already -6. Yes, you heard right, he’s birdied the first six holes he has faced and is only a stroke off the lead with twelve holes left to play in his opening round. Can you say Wow? Considering the fact that Weekley has played very little golf since his shoulder injury at The Players Championship back in May, this round is even more impressive. He’s on pace right now to beat the current single round course record which sits at a 61 and is shared by 4 other golfers.
Warren Believes 59 Will Be Shot
Even Charles Warren, co-leader at the moment, believes that this record will be beat. He was quoted earlier as saying that he’d not be at all surprised if someone shot a 59 this week given the courses current conditions: soft greens, great weather and slower rolling greens. Will a 59 be posted? Will someone go even lower? If Boo Weekley keeps it up, it might just be him!
Tune in!
Tune in, we’ve said it 100 times but we’ll say it again: It’s getting good!
