Everyone sitting comfortably atop the leader board right now at the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial gets a little bit more time to just kick back, relax, and watch the scores start rolling in. With Steve Stricker sitting at -14 after only two rounds, Tim Clark only one stroke behind at -13 and Vijay Singh patiently waiting to pounce at -12, today could set up to be yet another exciting and close battle between the men who are hitting the ball extremely well right now.
Lowest 36-Hole Total In History of Colonial
Considering the fact that Steve Stricker opened this tournament with back-to-back 63’s, which just so happens to be the lowest 36-round total in the entire, extremely lofty, history of this event. Just how far ahead are Striker, Clark and Singh? Try this on for size:
“On those merits, there are only seven players within six shots of the lead. Considering the way that Stricker and Singh are are playing, it doesn’t seem likely that you can go back much farther than that to find your eventual champion.”
Vets Put Huge Gap Between Themselves and Field
After only two days of play there are only seven players within SIX shots of the leader. Wow. Talk about a huge gap between the leaders and the followers. Bottom line is, things are going to get interesting as Stricker has to hold onto the lead he’s created, and there are few better players in this game than Vijay Singh at closing down the distances in the final 2 rounds and emerging atop the leaderboard. Basically, if Tim Clark, or Sean O’Hair who is at -11, want to keep up and have a shot at taking home the title here, they’ve better come out with all guns blazing to keep up with two veterans that clearly know how to not only play this course, but play the PGA game.
Stay tuned!
