Introducing the Sky Dream Jump Limited Forged PROTO wedges by Three Luck! – Only 50pcs can be produced each month they are forged of S15C and handground with they and others are claiming to be the flattest face of any wedge maker in Japan, it’s a fully CNC machined face using a proprietary method combined with engraved grooves for the most “conforming” spin possible. This type of accuracy reduces side spin helping you get closer more accurate shots toward the pin. Review after the Jump…
Hard to tell from the picture above but in hand you can tell these faces are something special with extreme accuracy, these wedges come RAW no finish whatsoever and they say they are doing this for more spin. Anyway I have these as a top 5 wedge at TSG and it was pretty obvious why after hitting them so let’s get on to my review…
Compact for sure I suggest these for the better player, the feel on these are something else such a pure and soft impact the way I would describe it coming off the face is like a fine zipper the ball does get chewed yet not as extreme as some of the non conforming wedges, I will say though hands down this is the most spin I’ve experienced from a conforming wedge.
Feel = A+ Spin = A+ considering its conforming.
Only a few wedges beat these out, SEVEN 2016 ( non conforming ) – SEVEN Double Milled ( Insanely non conforming ) and Yururi Raw Gekku Wedge ( also non conforming ) but other than that nothing comes close to these in the world of conforming wedges.
The shape is more tear drop, that means the mass is positioned closer to the sole out on the toe side rather than higher and near the topline toe side, I like this as well not sure if it has a tangible effect but it looks good, everything about this from neck transition, shape, slight onset in the 58* makes these the ones to beat for the better player, Yes the A-Grind has a thinner top line, but still these I feel edge them out enough in the feel and spin category I lean this direction if it was my choice.
Forgiveness – B- these are fairly compact but still very versitile, great turf interaction the 52* you can open up a hair but not much and the 58* sits open perfectly, any more trailing edge grind is getting silly or only for cosmetics imo.
Another view of the flat face, again it’s milling marks are so fine my photos don’t show it well enough, these grooves though you can tell are sharp, I can’t really review distance on a blade wedge it’s not what we go for and quite frankly if your looking for distance in a wedge I’m sorry I think you have your priorities mixed up. I must say the finish or lack there of on these wedges when brand new look better than any satin I’ve seen, while smooth it’s so finely brushed it’s like a raw grain with no friction.
Compact in size with enough heel relief to get crafty and a sole grind that just flat out makes sense. I understand why Three luck ( parent co of SDJ ) decided to go complete free of any finish after I hit them, it’s addictive not gushy soft but just pure forged softy goodness that’s highly addictive. The leading edge grind is not killed nor is it sharp it’s just a nice rounded and these have enough bounce so they don’t dig yet they sit square and flat on the ground.
Below a pic that shows the fine milling on the face, no idea how they do it but I’ve not seen milling like this not even from big box OEM’s that mass produce wedges. Whatever the case I’m a believer and if your looking for a compact players wedge that is straight up business in performance and feel look no further I give these high marks after hitting them extensively in just about every category other than forgiveness which again this is a wedge and you want spin + accuracy and these are special especially if you know quality wedges if you own A-Grinds or Crazy or Suda-Modart Wedges you owe it to yourself to try these to compare them to because there is a good chance you may give these the nod over the rest.
Three Luck & Sky Dream Jump have had a cult following off and on at TSG but I think that’s about to change with these, If the right group of people hit these they will notice they are special indeed. Thanks for reading!
