RomaRo Alpha Fairway Wood – The entire series of Alpha woods contains the same DNA, easy to hit, long, very straight forgiving and higher launching I think that wraps it up nicely it’s forged cup face and stainless 17-4 body make for a satisfying sound at impact.
It’s shallow face looks as though you can get airborne well and that inspires confidence a low center of gravity help with picking the ball off turf it’s flatter more rounded sole slides very well. In this post we have both the Fairway & Utility to talk about so please continue to read on…
Talk about shallow face I’m hitting this club now with the TRPX Red Hot Fairway Wood Type-S Shaft, the launch is high and it gets up effortlessly which is great for a 3 wood this combo produced high draws with very long distance, in testing we noticed sweepers making the best most consistent contact I think because the sole is longer it glides against the grown for longer.
But very great feel, nice metal pop that isn’t loud but nor soft it’s forged feeling and very satisfying, better than most. Looking down at it you can tell it’s got size although its really not the biggest it’s 190cc’s in the #3 and 178/#5W – 169/#7W- 169/#9W. Because its so thin and flattened out one could say it’s actual volume remains low but just look at this photo and visually it looks very easy to hit.
Inside the head it’s got all the goods, variable sole thickness, variable face thickness, this one is high tech so if your looking for a low spin, high launch, easy to get up, forgiving and long fairway wood it could be the ticket. shaft is important and the TRPX Red hot did not disappoint although I had to slow the swing down and smooth my tempo this combo produces as much if not more distance than me swinging full with my other 3 wood which is a Modart 14 w/ FW80 or A-Grind 14 w/FW80Regenisis. TRPX nice graphics though!
Romaro Alpha Utility Wood – Below you have the new Alpha UT, not much to say other than it’s similar in design to the fairway wood, it’s got the same technology and materials Forged Cup, Variable thick everything and made for the same type of performance high launch, low spin.
Made available in 18/21/24/27 they also have a square face angle. The standard shafts are NS950GH Stiff and the Carbon RJ-TC in Stiff/SR/Regular but of course TSG.
I shafted this one up with the TRPX UT-7 which is a dedicated hybrid shaft that is really stable and firm feeling in softer flexes. It’s slightly firmer in sound and feel than the fairway wood which is due to the smaller head size, it gets up easily and does remind of the Type-R by Romaro which by comparison flies lower has a deeper face but still has a unique ability to clip the ground perfectly making it easy.
This higher launch made it easier to land soft on greens even with this shaft. I consider it very straight and accurate just really well done and both the new FW and UT I suggest if you need help getting airborne and this translates to the driver as well, high launchers with low spin all day.
