Instead of doing a blog posting the new X-Blade 905 MB alone I decided to compare the blade with the cavity. I know I won’t be gaming the muscle back but we will have a written + video review using Tatsuro’s great ball striking skills soon. So let’s get on with this, If you look below the image shows the CB on the left and the MB on the right. Overall they have an almost identical shape with the exception of the CB having a topline that’s thicker by about .75mm and more offset. The profile above would lend itself well to a combo set.
Let’s compare the shorter club’s now, again it appears the overall shape is the same. The sole design of the blade is of course a bit more narrow. In the picture below it appears the MB is longer heel to toe but that actually isn’t the case. They seem pretty spot and equal in terms of face and sole length. The cavity back has slightly more pronounced trailing and leading edge grinds which makes sense as the more narrow sole would require less force to guide it through the turf. The bounce angles on the CB has also been slightly increased.
When looking at the two faces side by side more differences begin to appear. The cavity back has a taller face featuring 13 grooves vs 12. It has a more rounded look to it and the heel area drops lower and extends out further. The muscle back has more of a tear drop effect going on with less size the closer you move to the top line. All in all it’s obvious that the pro’s want very similar features in their blade or cavity irons.
What’s interesting is how trends appear and fade away then the leftovers are the perfect blend of what was and what is. There was a time a couple of years ago when square or box toe was in visually, even some JDM brands began heading that direction only to back off and return to a slightly more square version of they already had.

Great comparision post! I appreciate seeing the distinct differences and details even if they are ever so slight. The CB looks and sets up much better to my eye.
Looking forward to the video review. If possible, plz add the 705m into the mix…
