It’s been nearly a month since Ping released the Anser Forged Iron in Japan. The launch went well and Ping was able to meet all pre orders in Japan for stock specs and shafts though demand has caught up with them slightly in the last few weeks with ZZ-65 getting back ordered. Custom color dots and specs from Ping WRX Japan are taking around 3-4 weeks which is not bad considering we are in the first month of launch and the beginning of the golf season.
I’ve already reviewed the iron once pre launch at the Golf Fair and even though I received another demo 7 iron this weekend from Ping for my Forged Cavity Back shootout, I’ll save most of my comments for the comparison article later this month. I will say that having the iron here in my backyard on a beautiful summery day for pictures does change the way the iron looks compared to under the bright lights of the golf fair. In other words it looks much better. The Ping Anser Forged has a very smooth and sophisticated look to it and looking at it more closely, the milled face stands out much more than it did indoors 3 months ago. Also for some reason, the offset looks less than it did then, again most likely due to the tricks lighting played on my eyes (and my camera) at the fair. The silvery satin finish on the Ping is one almost any player will like and the thin sole and topline are like night and day compared to the Rapture V2 Japan.
I look forward to shooting out this iron with the others as they arrive this week for testing. Stay tuned for the comparison article but in the mean time here are some pics!
