Introducing the 2019 Titleist Vokey Forged Wedges. Once again, Titleist Japan is coming out with a JDM specific Vokey Forged Wedge this year. The global model Vokey wedges, as many of you are familiar with, pretty much follow the design and features equivalent to what is actually being played by tour professionals. While they look super sleek at address and satisfies the design demanded by many users globally, is it really the right design for those seeking a more forgiving design which allows players to truly rely on their wedges to make those up and downs to help lower their overall scores? Please follow the jump for more information on these exciting new wedges form Titleist Japan!!
The folks at Titleist Japan definitely felt that there is a design that is more appropriate for everyday players like you and I can reliably and confidently take our short games to the next level. The new Vokey Forged Wedges aims at exactly that. By fully leveraging their proprietary co-forging technique, they are now able to achieve a more precise CG design along with pure feel at impact. They are also able to optimize the amount of backspin for each loft setting which contribute greatly to distance stability and consistency.
Together with the progressive CG design and optimized spin control, players can better control their distance as well as trajectory and spin for confidently going after the pin with every approach shot. The sole grind is also optimized to work with many different types of course conditions based on real feedback from tour professionals.
In the new co-forging multi material construction, Vokey Forged uses loft specific CG locations for improving consistency in distance and spin control. They also utilize Tungsten and Titanium Inner weights to intelligently manipulate the location sweet spot to the center of the face to provide better directional accuracy upon contact. For 48 to 52 deg lofts the CG is set Low , 54 to 56 deg lofts, CG is set to mid height and for 58 to 62 lofts, CG location is set high.
Also new for this year is that they incorporated an “Improved TX4 groove” which utilize different width and depth of the groove depending on the loft of the wedge. 46 to 54 lofts get a deeper but narrower groove and the 56 to 62 lofts get a wider but slightly shallower groove on the face. All models also get additional parallel milling across the face for improved spin performance.
All lofts also feature the now familiar Pre Worn leading wedge which make it easier for players to actually use the bounce on the sole in their swing.
As for the overall looks, the top line is thin and sharp. The overall shape is a rounded profile to provide a forgiving image at address. There is a slight goose neck which is actually preferred by many players in Japan to be easier to line up to the target. The back design is traditional and clean with a small polished chrome accent which really look sophisticated and modern.
There are two finishes offered. The more traditional Satin Chrome finish and a Black PVD finish which looks very stealthy! Lofts, bounce and grinds as well as stock shaft options are as listed below.
The all new Vokey Forged Wedges will be released on March 22, 2019
